S3 Bolt-on turbo upgrade V.1 but no tuner...
In 2016 we sold our daily b8.5 S4 which had every single bolt-on and a giac stage 2 w/ pulley kit we instantly missed it. So we went out and got a 2016 S3 thinking, this has lots of potential, especially after seeing what APR was doing! Plus it's turbocharged!
We were right but also wrong...We thought, let's find a rebuildable core (IS38), rebuild, machine, upgrade, tune it and make the car much faster!
Well, for starters...even with all our resources in the industry, we had difficulty finding the right rebuild kit. Then saw all the weak links and limitations in putting in a bigger compressor wheel and an even bigger one for the turbine...
Either way, we started the project and so we kept going with it. We found/made a rebuild kit for it then started machining it out for a suitable and bigger compressor wheel. The compressor wheel choice was already compromised since we couldn't go that big...so much for massive gains!
So after machining and rebuilding these, we thought hey.. we are probably the first to have a bolt-on turbo upgrade for these! Now let's go find the we tuner we thought we had at the time. Well, we definitely were probably the first ones at this time, but what good is it without the tune? Let's just say the tuner we had (not dropping any names here), but wasn't able to deliver at the end of the day....So this project came unto a halt and we went on to another one of our 100 projects like many out there.
We did end up stuck with a GIAC stage 2+ for 2 years, which wasn't all too bad...
.........Let's fast forward a bit. We revisited and dabbled into this project here and there until recently we found that some turbo upgrades for this platform were emerging! So we found and sourced the components needed and used our most valuable resources to help us. What better than MHI for us. We ended up with a TD06SL2-20g Billet turbocharger that's been proven through EVO's, WRX's, DSM's, etc...
We do specialize in these turbos after all and rebuild kits, wheels, and major components are readily available making this potentially huge. We can now offer these in greater volume and sell these directly to the public....maybe. =)
Let's just call this V.2...
